“SCRUTINIES” BEGIN NEXT WEEK

At the Easter Vigil our Catechumens (those to be baptized) and Candidates (those already baptized but needing entrance into the Church and/or First Communion and Confirmation) enter a period of final preparation for the reception of the sacraments. The “Scrutinies” are celebrated on the third, fourth and fifth weeks of Lent. These rites, which take place during one of the weekend Masses, are meant to purify and enlighten those who will be initiated into the Church on Holy Saturday, the Vigil of Easter.

Next weekend, the Third Sunday of Lent, the Scrutinies will occur at the 5:15 Saturday evening Mass. This first Scrutiny presents the Catechumens and Candidates with the Lord’s Prayer. Plan to come and please remember to pray for all enrolled in RCIA.

From the figures, you can see that we have done quite well on the 2010 Annual Catholic Appeal. Once all the pledges have been fulfilled, over $22,000.00 will be returned to Saint Joseph’s. This will be the highest rebate we have ever received. Thanks so very much for such wonderful generosity. If you have not as yet had the opportunity to pledge, envelopes can be found at the rear of Church. Remember that any new pledge amounts will come back entirely to our Parish.

HELP WANTED

Our Parish needs your help in several areas. Are you able to assist in one of these ways:

• Helping to count the weekend collection. Your team would work on a Sunday morning once every four or five weeks?
• Help the Athletic Association, especially with the Lenten Friday Fish Fries?
• Work on a Steering Committee which would begin to plan for our Parish’s 100th Anniversary in the year 2012?
